Growing up in a small town in Northern Alberta, it was my teachers who coached, motivated and inspired me to always to be respectful, work hard towards a goal and be resilient in the face of challenges.  As an educator, I try to instill those same attributes in the students who I work with.

Immediately after graduating from the University of Alberta I received a two-month contract, teaching grade 9, 10 and 11 Mathematics, in Beaumont, Alberta.  The following September, I found myself in Andrew, Alberta, teaching grade 6 - 12 Mathematics, Computers, Physical Education, and managing a VAX server for the district, while coaching cross country running, volleyball, basketball, and track and field.

In 1995, I pulled up roots and moved to Whitecourt, Alberta, to teach Computer Technology, Physical Education and Mathematics at Hilltop High School.  During this time, I implemented an AP program, taught Advanced Placement Calculus, coached senior football and was part of building a provincially recognized track program, which produced numerous provincial-level athletes annually.

A Desire for a larger center to create more opportunities for my one-year-old son and three-year-old daughter we moved to Red Deer, where I taught Physics and Mathematics and coached junior varsity football at Hunting Hills High School.  During this time, I also completed my Masters degree in Educational Leadership, with a focus on Gifted Education.

I had the privilege of being appointed Vice Principal at Eastview Middle School, then as Vice Principal at both Hunting Hills High School and École Lindsay Thurber High School.  In 2014 I worked as a Learning Coordinator for Red Deer Public School Â鶹ÍøÕ¾Áбí central office.

In total, I have been involved in education as a teacher, administrator at a school and divisional level for over 25 years.  I believe education involves far more than simply “reading, riteing and rithmetic”.  I think students should be encouraged to excel in the arts, athletics,  with technologies and in a myriad of activities.  During this time one thing has become abundantly clear to me; ALL students can learn and be successful.  Our job is to provide opportunity and optimal instruction to motivate and inspire them to be the best versions of themselves.
