Please Note:

  • Students with a mark of A in Social Studies 8 are encouraged to register for Social Studies 9 Advanced.
  • Any Gr. 10 student wishing to take a Gr. 11 Social Studies course must have 65% or better in the prerequisite course.
  • Any Gr. 11 student wishing to take a Gr. 12 Social Studies course must have 65% or better in the prerequisite course.


Social Studies 10-1, 20-1, and 30-1 and Social Studies 10-2, 20-2, and 30-2:

These courses are based on two similar program sequences, one in Academic Social Studies and one in Applied Social Studies, with most curricular material common to both sequences.

Social Studies 10-2, 20-2, and 30-2:

Emphasis is placed on real world applications of Social Studies rather than intensive historical, economic and political analysis.

 Social Studies 10-1, 20-1, and 30-1:

Emphasis is placed on close reading and critical/analytical responses to historical, economic and political sources. Students entering Social Studies -1 sequence should have above 60% in the prior Social Studies course, should be prepared to do homework, and should be skilled at critical thinking and analysis.
