Alison Howard, Assistant Professor and Chair, Division of Political Science, International Studies, and History, was selected as Assembly District 10’s “Woman of the Year” by California Assemblyman Marc Levine.

Assemblyman Levine recognized her dedication to encouraging the next generation of passionate public servants and chose her to represent Assembly District 10. Professor Howard, co-author of Addressing The State of The Union: The Evolution and Impact of the President’s Big Speech, has been a longtime faculty member in the School of Liberal Arts and Education.

“She is dedicated to helping others succeed, is an inspirational educator, and an asset to our community,” Levine said. “In her 14 years as a political science professor at Dominican, she has helped shape the lives of students by compelling them to become informed, critical-minded and educated adults.”

The “Woman of the Year” award began in 1987 when the Legislative Women’s Caucus first hosted this celebration. The California State Legislature sets aside a day in March to honor Women’s History Month and the women chosen “to bestow accolades to encourage women of all ages to pursue a life that benefits others.”

The public ceremony was to have taken place on March 23, 2020, but it was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
