French Immersion

French Exchange Paris

French immersion is a highly successful approach to second language learning – an effective way for students to become functionally fluent in French while achieving all of the objectives of the regular school program. This program is designed for students whose first language is not French. The objective is full mastery of the English language, functional fluency in French, as well as an understanding and appreciation of the French culture.

The French Immersion program at Ecole Secondaire Lindsay Thurber offers a full spectrum of courses and provides maximum flexibility in conjunction with the regular and International Baccalaureate courses that are offered at our school.

Students at Ecole Secondaire Lindsay Thurber who complete requirements for the continuing French immersion and late immersion programs are eligible for a Bilingual Certificate.

Certificate of Merit

Students who earn a minimum of 30 credits in French courses, including French Language Arts 30 and one other course at the 30 level, will receive  a Bilingual Certificate of Merit.   Students can choose the second core course they want to pursue through to the end of Grade 12.

Certificate of Excellence

Students who earn at least 50 credits in French courses including French language Arts 30 and one other 30 level course, will receive a Bilingual Certificate of Excellence.  Students can choose which classes they want to pursue to complete the credit requirements.

The number of credits earned will appear on the certificate for future reference.
